Milestone picture, we have Krampus, the anti-Santa Claus, bringing his
"gifts" to naughty girls. Krampus punishes bad children by hitting them
with switches and taking away really wicked children to hell. Krampus
has gathered some evil girls of the cartoon and now needs to rent a bus
to take them away. The victimes (left to Right) Miranda Killgallen of
Nickelodeon's As Told By Ginger, Lucy Van Pelt of Charles Schulz's Peanuts, Mandy of Cartoon Network's The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, Penelope Lang of Atomic Betty, Vicki the Evil Babysitter from Nickelodeon's Fairly Odd Parents, Savannah Shane of Nickelodeon's All Grown Up, Katty Katswell, Kitty Katswell's evil twin sister, from Nicjelodeon's T.U.F.F. Puppy, Zoe Aves of El Tigre Misadventures of Manny Rivera, and Mandy of Totally Spies.
In Central European folklore, Krampus
is a horned, anthropomorphic figure described as "half-goat,
half-demon", who, during the Christmas season, punishes children who
have misbehaved, in contrast with Saint Nicholas, who rewards the
well-behaved with gifts. Krampus is one of the companions of Saint
Nicholas in several regions including Austria, Bavaria, Croatia, Czech
Republic, Hungary, Northern Italy including South Tyrol and the Province
of Trento, Slovakia, and Slovenia. The origin of the figure is unclear;
some folklorists and anthropologists have postulated it as having
pre-Christian origins.
In traditional parades and in such events as the Krampuslauf (English: Krampus run),
young men dressed as Krampus participate; such events occur annually in
most Alpine towns. Krampus is featured on holiday greeting cards called
Krampuskarten.
The history of the Krampus
figure has been theorized as stretching back to pre-Christian Alpin
traditions. In a brief article discussing the figure, published in 1958,
Maurice Bruce wrote:
There seems to be little doubt as
to his true identity for, in no other form is the full regalia of the
Horned God of the Witches so well preserved. The birch – apart from its
phallic significance – may have a connection with the initiation rites
of certain witch-covens; rites which entailed binding and scourging as a
form of mock-death. The chains could have been introduced in a
Christian attempt to 'bind the Devil' but again they could be a remnant
of pagan initiation rites.
Discussing his observations in 1975 while in Irdning, a small town in Styria, anthropologist John J. Honigmann wrote that:
The
Saint Nicholas festival we are describing incorporates cultural
elements widely distributed in Europe, in some cases going back to
pre-Christian times. Nicholas himself became popular in Germany around
the eleventh century. The feast dedicated to this patron of children is
only one winter occasion in which children are the objects of special
attention, others being Martinmas, the Feast of the Holy Innocents, and
New Year's Day. Masked devils acting boisterously and making nuisances
of themselves are known in Germany since at least the sixteenth century
while animal masked devils combining dreadful-comic (schauriglustig)
antics appeared in Medieval church plays. A large literature, much of
it by European folklorists, bears on these subjects. ... Austrians in
the community we studied are quite aware of "heathen" elements being
blended with Christian elements in the Saint Nicholas customs and in
other traditional winter ceremonies. They believe Krampus derives from a
pagan supernatural who was assimilated to the Christian devil.
The
Krampus figures persisted, and by the 17th century Krampus had been
incorporated into Christian winter celebrations by pairing Krampus with
St. Nicholas.
Countries of the former Hasburg Empire have largely
borrowed the tradition of Krampus accompanying St. Nicholas on 5
December from Austria.
Miranda Killgallen
is Courtney Gripling's best friend, and her sheer meanness will make
sure that no one else takes that position ((voiced by Cree Summer).
Miranda
icy cruelty can be traced back to a strict upbringing from her
overbearing father. She is fiercely loyal to Courtney and becomes
jealous if Courtney pays attention to any one else. She is the meanest
to Ginger Foutley, especially after Courtney begins acting friendly
towards her. Miranda tries her best to humiliate Ginger any chance she
gets, cackling with laughter at every one of Ginger's failures.Miranda's
dislike for Ginger mainly stems from her fear that 'Foutley', as she
calls Ginger, may replace her as Courtney's best friend. Adding fuel to
fire is Ian Richton, a boy that is in their chemistry class who both
girls have a crush on. Ginger's romantic interest sizzled; however, when
she realizes Ian was only using her to get an "A" in the class ("The A
ticket"). Miranda has thwarted Ginger by all means possible, including
manipulation (Dare I, Darren), blackmail (Cry Wolf), false accusations (I Spy A Witch, Ginger The Juvey), backstabbing (Wicked Game) and bribery (Far From Home).
Nevertheless,
a small part of her is still kind and she has has been known to do
something nice - though she goes to great lengths to hide it. Even
'tough girl' Miranda has a weak side: she has a difficult relationship
with her strict parents and has very few actual friends. She uses being
mean as a cover up and takes out her frustration on her classmates,
especially Ginger.
She's left friendless when she and Courtney have a temporary falling out; Macie states that it's because no body likes her (Trouble In Gal-Pal Land).
Apart from her viciousness, Miranda's trademark is her sniping, sarcastic comments.
Lucy van Pelt (sometimes referred to as Lucille) is a major female character in the Peanuts comic strip and the animated TV specials and movies based on it. She is the older sister of Linus and Rerun.
Lucy
usually wears white and black saddle shoes and a dress. In the
television specials the dress is colored blue. However, in later years,
towards the end of the strip's run, she was seen more often in a
sweatshirt and pants, until her dress was phased out altogether.
The first strip in which Lucy plays the football gag on Charlie Brown from November 16, 1952.
Perhaps
Lucy's most famous gimmick in her long existence as a character is the
one in which she pulls the football away from Charlie Brown right as he
is about to kick it. The first occasion on which she did this was
November 16, 1952, taking over from Violet, who had previously subjected
Charlie Brown to this trick on November 14, 1951. Lucy at first pulled
the ball away because she was afraid Charlie Brown's shoes were dirty,
and she did not want to get her new ball dirty. When Charlie Brown asked
her to hold it still again she held it down so tight Charlie Brown
tripped over it. Afterwards, Lucy would always intentionally pull the
football away from Charles Brown to trick him. The most infamous example
of this gag is in the animated special It's Your First Kiss, Charlie Brown,
where her actions cost the football team the Homecoming game, Charlie
Brown is blamed by the other players even though he is clearly not at
fault. Many viewers wrote to complain about Charlie Brown's unfair
treatment in the special. As a result, some scenes of other players
criticizing Charlie Brown were edited out in later screenings of the
special. Lucy herself cannot kick a football.
Another thing Lucy is very well known for his her psychiatry booth, where she gives people lousy advice for a nickel.
Mandy
is the tritagonist of the franchise, who is best friends with Billy and
Grim. She is a devious girl from Endsville. In stark contrast to her
cheerful, talkative, uniquely stupid best friend Billy, she is shown to
be intelligent, quiet, bitter and utterly ruthless.
After the
theme song, Mandy is shown in front of a black screen, usually speaking
to the viewers in a creepy, sarcastic way, similar to the couch gag
opening of The Simpsons.
Mandy is shown to be an
anti-hero at best, and a villain at worst. A cruel, intelligent,
cold-hearted, grouchy, bitter, cynical, merciless, vain, spoiled,
self-centered, stubborn, arrogant, unforgiving, unsympathetic and
slothful little girl, she regards herself as being superior to many of
the characters on the show, even her parents. She aspires to dominate
the planet with an iron fist and to stay as far away from Irwin as
possible. Mandy’s dreadful behavior has left her parents in fear and
they are often shown avoiding her. Her mother spoils her rotten and
showers her with money, compliments, and expensive gifts, despite her
fears, and her father is stuck cooking and cleaning for her. However, it
is shown that Mandy truly loves her family, as she was genuinely
shocked when they revealed they were afraid of her. It is said by many
fans that Mandy gets scarier and meaner every season.
Mandy also
has superior intelligence and strength not to be reckoned with. She has
an almost superhuman force as she is able to battle monsters with ease
as well as being able to understand complex theories of the world when
referring to her superior intelligence, despite being a child, so she
might be a prodigy. She also never misses a chance to exploit the
stupid, which more or less justifies her attachment to Billy.
While
Billy gets the trio into trouble, she is usually the one to get them out
of it, along with Grim who, without her force, would not even bother
trying to help. According to Billy and Grim, Mandy apparently has a fear
of professional figure skaters--but she denies this, claiming that she
simply "doesn't trust the way they spin," although, in
Billy & Mandy's Big Boogey Adventure,
her true worst fear is depicted as growing-up into a kind, chubby,
unattractive old woman and settling-down with Irwin. It is also shown in
the movie that Grim and Billy are actually very meaningful to her and
she feels truly alone and lost without them.
Mandy was the main antagonist of the crossover episode The Grim Adventures of the Kids Next Door, as she took over the Kids Next Door’s Moonbase and nearly dominated the entire Cartoon Network multiverse. This is probably Mandy's most villainous role ever.
Although
Mandy rarely smiles, she is shown to smirk in times when she wins or if
she is concocting a very sinister plan. When she did try to force a
smile in a beauty pageant, it caused a rip in the dimension that forced
her, Grim, Billy and Irwin to transition into the Powerpuff Girls world, due to the sheer awe of it being extraordinary.
Princess Morbucks is a spoiled, rich little girl, and a recurring antagonist in The Powerpuff Girls.
She is the daughter of Mr. Morbucks. She lives in an enormous manor
with her father on the outskirts of the City of Townsville.
Her
last name is a direct reference to the fact that she is very wealthy.
She is also known to have somewhat of a lisp (her s' sound like th's.
However in "Twas the Fight Before Christmas" and "See Me, Feel Me,
Gnomey"). In the episode "Boy Toys" it is revealed that she actually
does have a mother because after she finished a phone call, she said to
herself, "Man, my mom can be such a pain in the butt."
Princess
is evil, spoiled, mean, selfish, stubborn, jealous, greedy, loud, rude,
nasty, manipulative, dictating, and cruel, especially for a little girl.
She is subject to violent temper tantrums when she wants something.
This is about when her father will hand her a large wad of cash or even a
suitcase full of dollar bills to get her silenced. When denied of what
she wants, she becomes emotionally distressed and throws a huge temper
tantrum. This irritates everyone around her, including her father.
She
is also obsessed with becoming a Powerpuff Girl. Unfortunately, she
doesn't have real superpowers or crimefighting experience, which
ultimately leads to her becoming angry at The Powerpuff Girls for not
letting her become one, hence only willing to become one for cosmetic
reasons (since the trio are loved by the whole town). In her own words,
she decides that "If I can't be a Powerpuff Girl, then there won't be
any Powerpuff Girls!".
However, she loves something other than
herself and destroying the Powerpuff Girls: Cash. As shown, she'll only
love her father if he gives her anything she wants if she asks sweetly
(which she doesn't most of the time). If not, Princess throws a bratty
tantrum for it. At one point, her father taps the rolled-up morning
paper against his palm. This indicates that he gives her firm
discipline, despite the great extent to which he spoils her financially.
Katty Katswell is the twin sister of Kitty. She is voiced by Grey DeLisle.
She
was mentioned in Diary of a Mad Cat and Bluff Puppy and finally appears
in A Tale of Two Kitties. She is said to be in jail. It is implied that
Mrs. Katswell prefers her to Kitty, due to her asking Kitty why she couldn't be more
like her sister. In A Tale of Two Kitties she was escaped from prison
to take revenge on her sister who put her in jail by swapping places
with her own sister to steal 24 carat Golden Fishbowl from the
Petropolis Art Museum exhibit in which Dudley and Kitty
have assignments to protect this, where Dudley didn't know that where
his partner was swapped by Katty. As a criminal she commits crimes such
as armed robbery, Grand Theft Auto and insurance fraud.
Penelope Lang (Catherine
Disher) is Betty's self-obsessed, heartless rival on Earth, who thinks
of herself as the most popular girl at her school. Her favorite pasttime
is ridiculing the other students, Betty and Noah in particular. She is
rich, spoiled, and often uses her popularity or wealth to undermine
Betty's social standing, a plan that inevitably goes wrong and violently
backfires on Penelope every time. She is usually seen with two
sidekicks named Megan and Sarah. She’s used to getting her own way —
even if it means stepping all over other people. In fact, she enjoys
getting her own way more if she has to step over other people to do so.
In "Bracelet Yourself", she tampered with Betty's bracelet which is
property of the Galactic Guardians and caused the Starcruiser to lose
control. She also seems to not hate, but despise Betty enough to
be violent, for in "Pre-Teen Queen of Outerspace", she attempts to kill
Betty and her friends, though she thinks it is just a dream. Being
Betty's rival, she also dislikes Noah just about as much as she dislikes
Betty. Though she has come close to discovering the existence of the
Galactic Guardians, having stolen Betty's bracelet in "Bracelet
Yourself" and even having tampered with and in Power of the Pharaoh,
read out of Betty's own "captain's log" (this causes people to think
that Betty is a science fiction author), she quickly dismisses all of
the evidence. She doesn't believe the evidence are real.
Vicky
is a sadistic sixteen-year-old girl who babysits Timmy and is the main
antagonist for the first six seasons in the show (seasons 1-6). Her
really menacing behavior towards Timmy is one of the reasons - if not
the main reason - that he has fairy godparents, and most of his wishes
involve getting revenge, or simply getting around her. Vicky is
typically hired when Timmy parents make a hasty getaway trip to one of
their "adults-only" destinations, leaving Timmy in her cruel hands.
Vicky is voiced by Grey Delisle, whom also voices Vicky's sister Tootie
and many other characters. Vicky also had a cameo appearance in the
extended version of "A Fairly Odd Movie: Grow Up, Timmy Turner", "A
Fairly Odd Christmas", and "A Fairly Odd Summer", where she is portrayed
in live action by Devon Weigel.
Vicky is one of the most
horrible and corrupt characters in the series; she cheats at everything
she does (revealed in A Bad Case of Diary-Uh! and a variety of other
episodes), lies to parents, loves torturing children (including Timmy
and her own sister Tootie), is extremely greedy, mean, selfish, and
shows absolutely no remorse for her actions. Vicky is not considered to
be emotional, but she has shown some occasional positive feelings and
has even been nice to Timmy based on her own will:
- She
has shown some love during her time with Ricky (The Odd Couple), her
ex-boyfriend who dated her only for her money and broke up with her for
someone richer.
- In Snow Bound, she
and Timmy were trapped in an icy cave, and hugged for warmth. Later,
she threw herself between Timmy and what she thought was an abominable
snowman (really a pizza delivery guy wearing a heavy coat). Timmy was
shocked, but Vicky simply groaned out, "We hugged." as her explanation.
- In Frenemy Mine,
when Timmy saved her from being killed by a steamroller. She officially
decided she owed her life to him (mainly because she had nothing better
to do after being kicked out of a club for evil babysitters due to
being saved by a kid).
- She has calmer, nicer, more innocent feelings when she is transformed into a five-year-old.
Her
interests are mostly centered around typical teenage girl interest,
such as fashion magazines, soap operas, and cute boys, and in earlier
cases, she would rather simply read a magazine and ignore Timmy rather
than torture him. Other times, however, she is more malicious and keeps a
collection of medieval weapons that she doesn't hesitate to try to use
on those she babysits.
Vicky's most popular word would be 'twerp'
which she calls Timmy a lot throughout the show. Her goals in life are
to become rich, marry someone beautiful, and possibly even world
domination. Vicky is not above theft either, one time she sold a
person's car off the street simply because she was offered money for it,
and then attempted to steal this car again later to sell to a higher
bidder.[3]
She also attempted to bribe and blackmail all the judges into winning
the Miss Dimmsdale pageant. In almost all instances of wrongdoing
however, Vicky's been usually foiled by Timmy and his fairies.
Because
of her laziness and apathetic behavior, Vicky often overlooks things.
She forces Timmy to do her school work for her time to time, not a very
smart decision considering the fact that Timmy often flunks his own
grade and it's hard to see how he would be able to handle high school
work (not to mention the fact that Timmy is six years younger than her,
and most likely has no grasp of high school education yet). She will
frequently get hamstrung somehow by Cosmo and Wanda's magic and will
either freak out or simply not suspect a thing. This is usually because
Cosmo and Wanda wipe her memories of these events, or else she simply
suspects Timmy and plots revenge on him. None of her plans to get back
at Timmy are ever that thought out, such as when she tarred and
feathered Timmy only to get stuck in the tar she sprayed in the path of a
steamroller. Despite her own intellectual shortcomings, she is still
able to outwit Timmy's parents and manipulate them better than he can,
which makes her one of Timmy's greatest foes.
Savannah Shane
(voiced by Shayna Fox) is the most popular girl in school, whom
Angelica Pickles is jealous of, but very often, Savannah is just as
jealous of Angelica.
She will often compete with Angelica, because
she knows there is no chance she will lose. She is characterized by her
pink tank top, jean capris and black hi-top sneakers with purple laces.
She's a very beautiful tomboy like Kimi Finster, Lil Devine and Susie
Carmichael.
Mandy is Sam, Clover and Alex's (and later
Britney's) rival at school and has long black hair and violet eyes.
Being the model of the "popular teenager" stereotype, she is shown to be
stylish, popular and pretty (at least in her own opinion) but also
bratty, materialistic, snobbish, egocentric, arrogant, cruel and
downright maleficent - and apparently she may have inherited these
negative traits from her mother- who is nearly identical. She also has a
high and squeaky voice with a nasal laugh.
She has been shown in multiple spy outfits, all of which are purple. In the episode "Evil Coffee Shop Much?",
she joins the three spies but is lazy, leading to her losing her
memories of the whole experience. It is implied that she does poorly in
school as seen in "Dental? More Like Mental!" and "Alex Gets Schooled". Mandy is the only character whose height (5'4") was ever mentioned on the show.
The
rivalry between Mandy and Clover is most pronounced, as they often
compete for boys, popularity, and bragging rights. Mandy will go out of
her way to annoy the girls and will even use dishonest means in order to
do it. Mandy is also known to have a fan club called M.I.G. (Mandy Is
Great), which Clover joined, not knowing it was a Mandy fan club. Clover
was then forced to tickle Mandy's feet by the other club members, as
she finds it the only way to relax.
Zoe Aves is a
classmate of Manny and Frida who, unknown to everybody else, is the
Super Villain Black Cuervo. From the end of her debut episode Enter the Cuervo
and on, she is seen to have a crush on Manny and will flirt with him
from time to time. She is at odds with Manny's best friend Frida
however, and constantly tries to embarrass her in front of everybody,
including Manny. She is the daughter of Carmelita Aves (Voltura) and
granddaughter of Grandmami Aves (lady Gobbler).
Black Cuervo is
one of the few individuals that actually keeps her identity secret. For
most others in the show that have alter egos, people know who is who.
She is not known to make friends, but she can be constantly seen trying
to seduce Manny. She will occasionally stop in the middle of a fight to
to say "something" about him. She often tries to cover her feelings
before nearly openly expressing them by shooting or otherwise attempting
to harm Manny.
